R&B singer Sean Kingston is pleading with the court for leniency ahead of his sentencing, requesting house arrest instead of prison time after he and his mother, Janice Turner, were found guilty of orchestrating a $1 million fraud scheme.
The “Beautiful Girls” hitmaker and his mother were convicted on multiple charges including grand theft, identity theft, and fraud, after prosecutors revealed they had engaged in a complex scam targeting luxury goods suppliers, car dealerships, and financial institutions.
According to court documents, Kingston and Turner allegedly posed as high-profile clients, using false identities and fraudulent financial documents to secure expensive items including jewelry, cars, and electronics without ever fully paying for them. Authorities say the scheme ran for several years, netting the pair over $1 million worth of goods.
While awaiting sentencing, Kingston’s legal team has filed a motion asking the judge to allow him to serve his punishment under strict house arrest conditions. They argue that the singer’s medical needs, ongoing music projects, and his commitment to paying restitution make him a suitable candidate for a non-custodial sentence.
Prosecutors, however, are expected to push for prison time, claiming the elaborate nature of the scam and its high-dollar value warrant a harsher penalty to deter similar crimes.
Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, has faced legal troubles before, but this marks his most serious conviction to date. His mother, who played a key role in the operation according to investigators, is also awaiting sentencing.
The court is expected to make a final decision on Kingston’s sentencing terms in the coming weeks, a verdict that could determine whether the chart-topping artist serves time behind bars or from the confines of his home.
